Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Slevin Vivet was holding an envelope. He had never got a mission before, come to think of it, he had never done anything interesting since he became a shinigami. Someone who suffered from hollowphobia kind of made that difficult to do anything. Though today he had been given a mission, it was simply a rescue job. Take an extra butterfly, go to Earth, give it to a Rando who had gotten stuck there.

Shinigami:: Slevin Vivet
Division:: XX
Mission:: Deliver a Hell Butterfly
Notes:: An academy student was stranded on earth, get to Earth and give them an extra butterfly and communicator, and come back. No hollow interaction required... wimp.

Slevin looked at the note and made a face that said. Really, you took the time to even insult me? The odd part was he even did quite a number in order get out of doing anything. Though the superiors had been adamant that nothing was going to be trouble so they had pawned it off on Slevin anyway. The shinigami made sure he had everything and then stepped through the portal to Earth.

Slevin had to put his hand up as a giant vehicle with lights drove right threw him. He had closed his eyes and flinched too, before taking a deep breath, and touching multiple parts of his body to make sure he was in one piece. He had forgotten that he was basically immune to stuff like that, he took a deep breath, and pulled out his phone.

Slevin had no idea how he was supposed to find a random academy student. Shinigami weren't good at sensing anything short of someone overtly trying to be found, and an academy student wouldn't have an abundance of reiatsu. So he looked around and blinked. It was quiet, say for a few passer-bys and Slevin decided to pick a direction towards where his phone had labeled "last known location" and started wandering around. It wasn't like he could shout to find the person anyway.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

The crow that had been trailing him since his encounter with its hollow counterpoint had at some point in the last half hour flown away. It made an audible caw before it left. Really, he wondered what that was all about. He mused that it was telling him goodbye, so he waved to it as it left.

His body was drained and he was sore by now. By now, he’d been stranded here for just over a day and had come into contact with two very different kinds of hollows. While he was able to definitively purify one of them, the second had curiously managed to avoid that fate despite being cut down by his blade. He pondered why that might be. As he thought, he instinctively placed his hand on his sword, tapping his finger rhythmically against its hilt.

His vision was torn from him and he saw that he had taken to the skies, going round in a wide circle. His attention was pulled toward a figure who stepped forth from a very familiar gate. He heard a repeated caw; it sounded almost hopeful.

He let go of his sword, and he returned sharply to his senses. Surprised, he stared at his sheathed sword.

He broke out into a run, making his way toward where the figure had emerged. This was his chance! If he was quick, he could catch them before they got too far away, before he lost them. He closed his eyes as he ran, holding the hilt of his sword tightly as he went. With its sight and his agility, he had little trouble navigating the town. Soon, he would finally go home!

Slevin looked around, puzzled. Last known locations of something you didn't have a location for, was apparently completely useless. Slevin was pretty sure that the Gotei had just become stagnant and lazy for things like this. If it didn't matter, they didn't really care. He ran his gloved hand through his hair as another car approached him, though he was much less scared this time around.

The mute shinigami briefly thought about leaving the spot he had arrived at, but that wouldn't have been helpful. So, he sat down and waited, pulling out his communicator and yawning. He wasn't tired, it was more a gesture he had picked up from waiting without talking for years. Like some odd kind of safety blanket that didn't mean anything. He pinched the bridge of his nose and blinked as he looked around again.

A few more cars, a few random people, but no one could see him. Wasting something like a gigai on an unseated, or even most shinigami would have been a point of resource uselessness. He shifted his weight and looked back and forth before seeing someone with a blade running towards him. Slevin lifted up a fist and swung it in a tiny motion like he was waving a flag to go hurray but his heart wasn't in it.

He then waved and reached back to pull out the note he had to see if that was the shinigami with the name on it. When the man got near him, he simply pointed to the paper as he typed a message on his phone communicator. You? It asked, simply.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

A shinigami in a sleeveless shihakusho waited among the buildings, the hustle and bustle of the morning filling the space with noise. He had a file with him, and in that file he was turned to a slave that had Shinazu’s identity written within. He held it out to him inquisitively; Shimazu nodded.

Thank you. You know, for coming and finding me,” he offered.
I mean, really, you wouldn’t believe how many hollows there are around here. Go on, ask me how many I’ve seen while I’ve been here. Go on,” he was excited. For a moment, he really thought he’d be forgot about. Thought he’d end up killed.

For some reason, the air between them became stiff. He didn’t know anything about the hollowphobia. But it wasn’t that. The air became stiff; heavy with a certain sensation one just felt, and knew. He turned his head just in time to see a winged hollow cut around a corner a few blocks down. It seemed to be chasing something small.

...now is my chance!

See what I mean!? You game or what?” He’d get to work alongside a real shinigami. Someone who had graduated, and earned a spot in a division. He had to be strong! Didn’t he?

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Post by Slevin Mon Jun 01, 2020 12:55 pm

Slevin didn't want to ask about hollow or think about them or anything like that. In fact he seemed to become more distant the moment that the other one brought them up. He also didn't really have any way to answer so he pointed at his neck before seeing a winged hollow. Slevin, would have panicked a lot harder if he didn't immediately curl up into a ball and scream silently. Though nothing came out. No sound ever would. He couldn't move.

Slevin's mind began to crumble quickly, his reiatsu splashed around in every direction, he didn't have much but it was obvious he had gone into a state of total chaos. He had grabbed his red hair and was silently still screaming as he rolled around. He didn't want to hear the hollow, he didn't want to see it. Slevin had no intention of knowing it existed because that just made his own mind more of a prison.

If Slevin could have felt bad for the academy student, he probably would have but he couldn't. He could only bottle up and scramble around like a frightened child. Slevin had never understood his fear of hollow, it was basically irrational but that wasn't something he could force himself to believe. It went deeper, to an almost primal level of insanity and constant panic attacks. He had always wondered how he had even been strong enough to be a shinigami, though he had failed the academy time and time again until they just wanted him out.

That had lead to the fact that he also couldn't cast spells cause he was both spiritually and physically a mute. Whatever had driven Slevin to the brink, would probably never release its grip.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Post by Shimazu Mon Jun 01, 2020 2:37 pm

He was so excited to engage in the beast with a real shinigami that he allowed precious moments to pass by before he turned to look at how his rescuer was, it was not, preparing for engagement. Panic set in as he turned back to the hollow and it’s prey. They were close enough to see that it was chasing a young woman, terror painted her face in its bold colors, and a chain trailed behind her, her chest its origin. It was only a few more beats before it would without a doubt notice the inert pair. Get up! He wanted to scream.

Instinct of his own kicked in and he pulled his incapacitated ally to a more advantageous position, behind some clutter, avoiding the hollows sight. It flew down the street, folding its wings in and diving toward its prey. He didn’t have a choice, he had to compromise their position!

He shot up from his crouched position and pointed a finger defiantly at the charging hollow. Using more of what little he had left in him than he would have liked, he cast a single, concentrated bolt of lightning. It pierced the beast, decorating the monstrosity with a second hollow hole. It kicked it off course, missing its target, and it fought to keep to the skies, ultimately proving successful. With a decisive maneuver, it spun around and began for Shimazu’s position.

I can’t keep this up!

He gripped his sword and closed his eyes. He tried desperately to think of something to do before the thing was upon him, wreaking havoc. He almost lost his grip when the combined visual feeds of a handful of crows played within the darkness. It was a disorienting experience, more than one wave of nausea inside him. He realized he had a degree of input in each of them individually, and then all as a whole.

It wasn’t long before the small murder fell upon the hollow, diving from their nearby perches and coming to Shimazu’s call. Together, the lot of them engaged in aerial acrobatics as they made passes and pecked, raked their talons, and otherwise caught the attention of the winged hollow, who stopped in its pursuit now for the second time. He snapped back into himself, and watched the spectacle from his own vantage point. He marveled.

Did I... did I really do that?

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Slevin was light, which was probably a good thing. He was also scared and demoralized. The more the hollow let out sound, the more he wanted to be anywhere else and the more his reiatsu pushed outwards for no real reason except to make him scream silently. Slevin was already resigned to the fact he probably would never get over his fear and had compensated by wanting to get power in different ways. To him, things like hunting down things that weren't hollow was a definite possibility, though getting anyone to care about things like that was near-improbable.

So instead he was dragged around like a screaming child, though he couldn't add the high pitched whine to the experience. So as the hollow charged around and the academy student fought valiantly, he simply closed his eyes and waited to die. It was a terrible feeling, but one he had experienced time before and time again. Slevin was always at something else's mercy because he wasn't strong, he was Slevin. He had his gifts and they meant absolutely nothing in the face of an opponent he couldn't even hope to stand against.

So when the rocking stopped and the academy student was fighting off the hollow, Slevin managed to get enough sanity back to peer around through his panic attack. His body was racing but he couldn't see what was going on. At least the other person was much more capable than him, again. He would have thought more but doing so while trying to keep himself from passing out was too much of a chore. He pulled down one of his gloves where he hid the other hell butterfly who came out of the small box and flew towards the academy student. Which was about the amount of impact Slevin was going to have.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

He had taken to a defensive posture, the hollow shaking off the petty annoyance the mob of crows amounted to. Again it moved to close the distance between him and the other shinigami. Maybe his comrade thought he had it under control? Maybe he thought Shimazu considered retreat an option? A spare jigokucho was released into the fray, and it fluttered toward Shimazu just as the hollow was nearly upon him. With no time to open the senkai gate himself, and a hollow just now entering his personal space, he was forced to use his sword to defend himself. Man, if only that human woman was here to back him up like before...

As he cut through the advancing hollow, reaving talon from leg, the butterfly was unfortunately caught in the ensuing melee. Again he began to fear the possibility he would be left behind a second time. Everyone seemed to gawk at the sight of a hollow, and he began to realize maybe it was his fault for trying to prove himself to everyone. His insistence to fight would get him killed.

Hey! I’ll hold it off, can you get the gate open? The quicker the better,” he said, engaging the hollow again. The small mob that had taken interest in Shimazu joined the assault, poking at and catching the attention of the hollow at just the right times to give Shimazu openings he otherwise wasn’t skillful enough to exploit on his own. He remembered back to his earlier thought process: kill them quickly. They were resilient, and would overcome you if you allowed the combat to drag on. Too bad for Shimazu, it’s something easier said than done.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Slevin scrambled away and into a corner. He pulled out his phone and looked through the applications, his vision was black around the entire outside and it was closing in the more things the hollow destroyed and noise it made. He scrambled and protected his head as he heard it again, half flailing but managing to snatch his phone out of midair as he panicked. He finally managed to find the application for the gate, which Slevin only had because he didn't have a zanpakutou to open one. Though because he didn't the application took a while to lock with Soul Society.

He would have warned the other man if he could have spoken, but the electricity that symbolized the formation of the gate began to radiate outwards and crackle. Most gates were like old zen houses, Slevin's was like someone was superimposing the thing badly on Earth. Which was what his phone application was doing. Another radiating shock spread out as the gate finally whined to life and tore a bright pink hole in reality. Slevin looked around for the other man, hoping to not see the hollow before slamming his foot on the ground.

Slevin couldn't speak, so loud noises were the next best thing when he didn't have time to think or be subtle. It sounded much like a wave crashing as he pressed all of his reiatsu into the action. He wanted to scream for the other man to hurry but that was a minute thought as he gasped and waited. He might have been in panic and maybe a coward when it came to Hollow, but Slevin would get his job done.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Shimazu’s ally spoke with a deafening chorus of silence. It took him a moment to adjust, but he was pretty sure what was going on. He really was mute, huh?

One by one his crow allies continued to assail the hollow, providing vital openings which Shimazu used to bring the beast down to size. With a shout, he plunged his sword deep into the hollow’s mask, the resulting cracks webbing across the remainder. It let out a defeated howl as it burst into a shower of reishi. He held still a moment, holding his position turned away from his shinigami ally. He wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel right now. Two moments. Time dragged on.

Where did that girl run off to? Don’t we have to, you know,” his voice trailed off. He turned to his rescuer, and made a stamping gesture with his zanpakuto. He was this far in, why give up now? “What do ya say,” he asked through labored breaths. “Let’s just finish this up and then head home.

Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private] Empty Re: Who Rescues the Rescuers? [Private]

Slevin sat down and breathed heavily as the hollow was finally defeated. The other man was right, they did have to stamp but Slevin wasn't happy about it. He was more or less ready to just walk through the portal, but that was probably the wrong decision. He sighed and changed applications on his phone as he looked around for the girl.

It took him a moment to get his bearings enough to find her, she had been cowering like Slevin had been. He wandered up to her, still half on and off his legs as he walked up to her and made a few motions before he used the konsou symbol application and stamped her forehead. Slevin was surprisingly relaxed about this, now that the hollow were gone. Which basically was him in a nutshell.

With that done, Slevin let out a silent gasp and headed back to the open gate. He wanted to go back. He looked at the other man and pointed at the gate with a questioning look to make sure there was nothing else. If there wasn't he would let the guy go first before following. He was still shaking.

For the first time in a while, he was able to relax. He imagined what returning home would be like, not to the academy, but to his estate in the seireitei where he was wealthy in all manner of things. He didn’t much like to rely on or boast about his social status, but maybe this one time was he genuinely grateful for his affluence. Soon, he would be home again, where servants would tend to his every need, or want.

I can’t imagine the paperwork on a situation like this,” he mused. He hadn’t yet decided whether he was going to mention his interaction with the human woman or not. All that mattered was that he was going home. He’d have to remember to have his servants deliver this man some sort of gift for the swift, and silent, rescue. He realized it could, really, have been anyone who had saved him, but there was something about how this one’s silence spoke volumes. All this and more he thought as they casually began the long walk back home to the Soul Society.
