Feeding The Flame
The Story:
Meridith is a Welsh Quincy from a reclusive but well-established family. She snuck away from home to Japan to hunt in secret. The crux of this particular arc lies in her struggle between her desire to help people and her fears over the Shinigami inevitably finding her.
In Struggle in Vain she struggles to kill a particularly powerful Hollow and is saved by another stranger creature who talks to her about fear. Meridith would slay the creature if she could but she knows that discretion is the better part of valour. There are countless Hollows, there are very few Quincy. She winds up fleeing, spurred on by visions of black-robed reapers chasing her.
On the Town immediately follows, she races away from the scene exhausted and terrified and meets a bright spot by crashing into fellow Quincy Kevin DuBrow. Meridith gets to see she is not alone, and this is what will resolve her decision to hunt. She avoids responding to the plethora of messages as her family rediscovers her because she has not yet gained the courage to defend her decision.
Feeding the Flame is the natural consequence of her hunting, she finds and slays a Hollow, thinking she is resolved but finds that tested when the literal embodiment of her nightmares materializes before her. She attacks out of reflex, sealing her fate but far from deciding to be a victim of circumstance this is the moment she decides that hunting is her right, that she cannot allow the Shinigami to stop her. Broken both in body and spirit, her resolve allows her to rise once more, and she replaces her wild formless bow with her true spirit weapon, her birthright, and fights on.
Release Description:
Meridith's Bow Power is the true form of her Spiritual Weapon, Caledfwlch, also known as Excalibur. Matching the broken blade she wears around her neck, the emblem of her family. Hers breaks with the tradition of the Quincy Bow, because it is not a weapon meant for the slaying of Hollow's, it is meant to do battle with Shinigami.
Visually, her spiritual weapon takes the form of a long thin blade, not unlike a longsword. It has a flared guard, and a rounded pommel, suited for wielding in a single hand but capable of being wielded in both. The blade is not currently solid, instead it is a relatively dense blue form of what is to come and far more refined than her prior bow.
Release Ability:
It is said the Excalibur was a blade without equal, that it could cut effortlessly through iron as if it was wood. Meridith's rendition holds up to the legend but the true power of the blade lied in the scabbard which carried it. While summoned, Meridith's wounds will bleed very little as she fights her black-robed foes and their dangerously sharp Zanpakuto, helping her frail physical form match her firm resolve.
As a note, I understand the moment isn't quite given here, but I think it's well-led into and obvious enough that it stands on its own. If desired, happy to write what would come next, but hopefully it's clear.
I do not need you to give any feedback, happy to accept a simple pass-fail but feel free to pass along any issues if you feel so inclined!
