What Does This Button Do? [Open]
Science: arguably the most important development in human history. Much of mankind's evolution into the sophisticated, albeit violent and at times self-destructive, lifeforms of today was thanks to some application of science. From the creation of the combustion engine up to nuclear power, it can be said that science guides the steps of societal evolution. Science was responsible for medical advancements that lead to deeper understanding of sickness and adversely remedies. Even combat saw similar growth thanks to science. Gun powder lead to firearm development and explosives, which themselves even now continually grow in scale and destructive capability. But of course, there are those that seek to pervert and twist the benefits of such developments for their own selfish gains.
Genetic engineering for military applications were one such practice. And it is because of this often taboo subject that her current disposition had come to fruition and given her new life. She had been made into a weapon. She had been given knowledge that made her quite possibly one of the deadliest people known to man. She had an arsenal of weaponry both conventional and prototypical. She had resources all over the globe at her disposal. She....was getting fed up and about to lose her shit.
In the lower levels of what appeared to be a government laboratory, guitar riffs and chords echoed through the sparsely populated hallways. Two men, dressed in what could be considered military grade equipment, carried large crates towards another section of the lab. As the men approached a large set of vertical doors, the guitar sounds became more rhythmic and it became clear that it was not just nonsensical noise, it was music being played through speakers. Loud music. The thick glass panes that ran along the length of each door brightened sporadically with bright blue flashes. From the other side of the door came a sharp and rather dangerous sounding crash. A frustrated shriek rang out from within and the men halted in their tracks.
"Stupid fucking piece of shit!" A brash femininity voiced its discontent. Upon hearing the voice, the two men decided that perhaps it would be better if they chose a different route. They knew what that tone meant; their boss was working on something that hadn't gone as intended. When things didn't go as intended for their boss, that usually meant someone was about to get hurt. Or die. Before either of those options could befall them, the sounds of their hurried footsteps moved away from the bay doors.
Another crash.
"Oh, fuck you! Seriously?!" The woman bellowed out again. Inside the room in question, what appeared to be a young woman just barely out of her teens was partially obscured beneath a large machine of some kind. A hand reached out from beneath the machine and rummaged through the nearby scattering of tools, seizing a socket wrench then retreating back to the its previous location. There was a dull thud from beneath the machine followed by a spark of electricity, both of which earned vaguely approving grumbles from the young woman. A pair of hands reached out and gripped the bottom of the machine, pushing upward to allow the young woman to slip from beneath and rise to her feet.
"This fucking thing better work this time." She muttered while approaching the display panel on the machine. Soot and grease streaked her juvenile visage in random places and she appeared to wear military clothing similar to the two men, yet hers was subtly different, as if to denote a difference in rank. She had noticeably cute features, but there was something about her that seemed....off. There was obvious intelligence, she was working on such sophisticated machinery. Perhaps it was the fact that in such a short time she had uttered enough obscenities to make the most unruly of sailors proud. This foul-mouthed young woman was Kamiko Tsumure, better known by her nom-de-Gare "Omega."
Crimson eyes narrowed into a focused glare panned back and forth along the holographic panel as her fingers tapped away at the projected buttons. What exactly was the working on? The purpose of this machine was to create a weapon that destabilized the atomic bonds of its targets. At least, that was its intended purpose. So far, it had not been living up to her expectations. After another moment she ceased typing, stepping back from the primary panel and approaching a secondary panel a few steps away. A few more taps on this panel and the machine hummed to life. Kamiko's eyes widened by the slightest amount with each moment that it appeared successful. For a moment it seemed as though the machine would do as intended....that was until it suddenly gave off another crash then fell silent in a plume of thick black smoke. Her frown deepened into a dangerous scowl and her fists tightened into white-knuckled fists. Her foot slowly rose then plummeted down against the machine's side in a violent stomp.
And again. And again. And again. With each stomp delivered to the side of the machine, it sustained increasing amounts of damage.
"Stupid. Fucking. Raggedy. Piece. Of. Shit. Machine. Fuck you. Goddamn. Cheap...." Each word was accompanied by a stomp. By the middle of her sentence, the machine's side was practically cratered in and the delicate circuitry within nearly destroyed beyond repair. Kamiko let out a final frustrated yell and delivered another kick. The moment her foot made contact, a crimson flash of spiritual energy struck the ruined side and an ear-numbing explosion engulfed the machine and sent her careening against the far wall. Choking smog filled the room and threatened to end the young woman's tantrum as quickly as it had began. Before the smoke could completely fill the room, however, it began to be drawn towards a central point. Gradually it cleared enough to reveal a curious sight. A jagged swath had been torn through the fabric of reality, as if some ancient deity expressed its disdain for her actions.
"Agh, Christ. What the ever-loving fuck was that?" Her hand swiped through the lingering smoke amid a harsh coughing fit. Peering with curious amusement, she beheld the bleak desert through the rippling surface of the tear. It wasn't the Sahara, the topography was all wrong. Kalahari? No, that wasn't right, either. Gobi? Not there, either. Not to mention the sand was an ashen gray color. And then there were those twisted and gnarled excuses for trees.
"Ooo! Did I find a new place? Time to explore!" With no hesitation whatsoever, Kamiko skipped playfully towards the tear and into the desert beyond. Before she could actually pass through it, however, the swath snapped shut and all that remained with devastated remains of the machine. Kamiko scoffed, once more faced with this failed attempt.
"Last time I buy from that black market dick-cheese....I knew I should've went with that Russian arms dealer. I'll have to make a note to go kill that other guy when I have a free moment." She muttered as she surveyed the extent of the damage. It was annoying, that was for certain, but nothing she wouldn't be able to fix easily enough. But as she set to work on the repairs, a single inquiry circled in her mind: what and where was that desert?

Re: What Does This Button Do? [Open]
Walking through the town Kaami is sad that he can not find any friends. His last ones seemed to have wandered off and he needs some more. Other wise he will be lonely and that would be... Bad? Yes and so he must find more and as such continued walking through the town. He sees a lot of potential friends but none of them are reacting to him. That means they can not see him and should not be friends he takes. After all you can not be friends with things that can not see you.
After walking he saw something that caught his eye. A building that had a lot of people in it from what he could see. And it was open! Going through the door Kaami sees that none of them can see him since they do not react like the others do. Walking through the hallways and down some stairs he comes across an area that few of them walk through. That means it is important, and will either have more friends! Or prey and Kaami is okay for either of those to happen. And really what else could be down here since few of the potential friends actually walk through.
As he walks he hears sounds around him that does not seem to come from anything. But that makes sense since sometimes that happens. Maybe it is him? Eh either way walking around he sees two potential friends carrying something towards another part of the building. Curious he walks with them trying to look inside the box without touching it or them. Kaami has found out that touching the potential friends or things around them makes things worse for him. And so he has learned the art of doing what he wants while skirting around the ones that can't see him.
As they are walking he hears a yelling from someone and looks to the door that it comes from. Going through the door that the yelling came from he sees a female potential friend kicking a device and yelling at it. As she does so something happens that Kaami does not process well tilting his head at the sight of a landscape that looks weird to him and does not match anything around him. Walking forwards he looks at it not paying attention to the potential friend that will not be able to see him like the others.
When it closes before he can actually walks through it Kaami gives a sad whine as the woman starts muttering to herself and starts to do something to the object. Punish it for failing to do what she wanted? That seemed possible, after all that is something he has seen them do before. Sighing in sadness that this trip was a waste since he found neither a friend to bring home with him nor prey for him to eat and gain strength from. All together a sad thing to happen that Kaami could never have seen coming.
Turning around towards the door he starts walking towards it with his head and tail low in sadness since the worst possible thing happened to him. After all what could be worse then what just happened? It is terrible and nothing could ever fix it again.
